CAM Cabin Crafts
Keeping Crafts Local
A |
s “keep it local” shopping campaigns sweep the country, one Log Cabin turned craft store in Wears Valley provides a model for the rest of Appalachia by doing just that, and has been for some time.
Cam Cabin crafts, located just on the Sevier/Blount co line, is part of the Coalition for Appalachian Ministry (CAM). The ministry’s mission is to make a positive impact wherever reformed tradition and Appalachian culture come together by networking with church and community to provide educational and service opportunities.
The craft shop serves to provide an outlet for the sale of Appalachian Craft Items only-many of which are made by longtime area residents. Owner/Operator Therica Breazeale makes it clear that No Imported Items are carried in the store.
Inside the rustic, unassuming cabin you will find many unique crafts including; Cookbooks, Jewelry, Jams, and Jellies.
The Ministry is operated on donations, so the shop is not operated for profit. The majority of the money paid for the crafts will go directly to the crafter-many of which are senior citizens on fixed incomes.
The CAM Ministry has been in operation for around 32 years. Started in Knoxville, the Ministry moved to its present Wears Valley location in 1998. It was at that time the craft shop became a part of the CAM ministry.
Not limited to crafts, CAM also works with Mission sites and church’s throughout the Appalachian region getting them help in many areas such as; food, clothing, school supplies, personal needs, shoes, socks, and volunteers for work projects
The CAM cabin craft shop is generally open Monday-Thursday 10:00-5:00 and Friday 12:00-5:00, Saturday 12:00-6:00. March-December. Contact: Therica Breazeale 865-448-5940 or online at thericabcam@aol.com
Wears Valley & Townsend residents will be treated to an open house May 14-15. Several local crafters will be on hand demonstrating and showing their crafts.
The Ministry truly appreciates all purchases, and donations. Every little bit helps!
