Luke Rimel Day at Valley View Baptist Church
Dr.Preston Joslin
Luke Rimel Day was proclaimed at Valley View Baptist Church
on Sunday during Thanksgiving Day worship and celebration.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Rimel, Luke was born with a form of
cerebral palsy called pseudobulbar. His condition refers to a
group of symptoms that include difficulty with chewing,
swallowing, and speech, as well as emotional outbursts of
laughter and tears.
Luke was born April 10, 1997, after his mother waited 13 hours
in labor. The cesarean delivery was performed after Luke’s
heart rate dropped to below 50. After 3 years and a number of
tests, it was medically determined that Luke had suffered a
stroke during delivery. Doctors stated that he would never sit
up, smile, walk, nor talk. After 12 years, Luke has defied all
predictions and is doing all of the above. The family continues
to believe that Luke will be totally cured in God’s timing.
The Rimels are faithful members of Valley View. Three years
ago while attending worship services Luke responded during
the invitation to receive Jesus Christ into his heart. His father
and the pastor stood in the baptistery and baptized Luke in
front of the entire congregation the following Sunday. A
Christian writer met the Rimels while on vacation in South
Carolina. Kay King wrote a pamphlet about Luke and provided
copies to the Rimels. A special recognition ceremony was held
during the worship service at Valley View and the entire
congregation gave praise and honor to God for His goodness
and mercy. It was truly a day of Thanksgiving.
