2009-10 TWRA Statewide Winter Trout Stocking Program Set
Little River to be stocked starting in early Spring

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will once again conduct
its winter trout release program with more than 82,000 rainbow trout
on schedule to be stocked into Tennessee waters from December
through March.
“The program provides the opportunity for anglers to harvest rainbow
trout, said Jason Henegar, TWRA Fisheries Management Division
“The program is very popular and we encourage all anglers who may
not have the opportunity to give it a try this winter.”
Several Sevier county stocked streams are closed to harvest during
specific periods and then opened to harvest later in the year. The
objective of this regulation is to provide a catch-and-release fishery
for trout during the winter months using relatively low numbers of
stocked trout. Then later in the year, after these fish have grown
some, they may be harvested.
The following areas have delayed harvest regulations:
(Sevier County):
West Prong Little River
Dudley Creek
Roaring Fork
Leconte Creek
The daily creel limit is seven, but there is no size limit. A statewide
fishing license and an annual trout stamp are required.
TWRA has announced a list of locations scheduled to receive
stocking in this year’s program. Included on the list to secieve
stocking are both the Little and little pigeon Rivers. The Little River,
flowing out of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park into blount
county will begin its stocking program the first of March and will
contiue 2x monthy until June 21. the Pigeon River is slated to begin
stocking the end of Febuary continuing bi-weekly until July 12th.
