ccording to Tyson Maples, the Brothers of “Mountain Brothers” were inspired by his own two young sons. Quite simply they are brothers, who live - and play - in the Mountains. Tyson, who owns and operates the store along with his wife Kristi wanted to use brothers in the name somehow, so Mountain Brothers General store was born.
Officially opened on Memorial Day weekend, Mountain Bros. is located in the upper end of Wears Valley, just past Happy Hollow Rd.
Calling it a mere Shop does not do Mountain Brothers justice. It is definitely and positively a Store…perhaps Emporium.
Upon entering the front door you are greeted by a large, ferocious Black Bear. No, of course, I’m joking. He is large but he’s not ferocious and he’s stuffed. That black bear watches over a wide, and constantly growing, selection of items fo all aspects of the home, inside and out. To begin to describe the huge selection of merchandise is well beyond the capabilities of this writer, but please believe that it is all unique. Camping supplies to novelty socks. Every twist and turn through the store brings some treasure you are sure to not want to leave without. Shoppers are sure to keep busy looking through the large garden section. The gals wont want to miss the jewelry displays Mountain Brothers also seems to have the best selection of “Wears Valley” t-shirts in Wears Valley , and that alone says something. All that shopping is bound to make you hungry and that’s not a bad thing when you’re at Mountain Brothers. One whole room, a virtual store within the store is dedicated to “foodie” type merchandise. Jams, jellies, salsas, hot sauce, you name it, I bet they have it. All the candy you love is here and some that you’re Granddaddy probably loved too. Did somebody say “Homemade Ice-cream?” Yes they did! Yu can get that right her as well. Tables and chairs are located inside and out.
As if having a large, unique selection of merchandise and a gracious plenty of food items from candy to gourmet wasn’t enough, the Maples family goes one step further for the customer. Everything is creatively displayed on and among an impressive selection of antiques, making browsing fun. The antique furnishings are the perfect trim for the large, authentically built log cabin that houses it all.
There are buildings made to have the log cabin look, and then there are real log cabins- made of logs; notched, stacked, and chinked. Mountain Bros. is definitely a real log cabin. The 6000 square foot building is made with huge spruce logs shipped from Montana. These logs were selected over native white pine due to their superior durability and appearance. White pine was used throughout the buildings floors. The large front porch offers some great shade and rocking, and you couldn’t ask for a better place to sit and enjoy that homemade ice-cream you got inside. Stop by and see for yourself what Mountain Brothers General store is all about. You will be glad you did!
Mountain Brothers is open daily from 9am-7pm they may be visited online at www.Mountainbrothersgeneralstore.com or by calling (865)-448-2237
