It’s March, and I’ve been planning events for spring since the New Year began. I’m so excited to see the daffodils bloom, and the grass turn green. I want to be outside during all of it. One of the things I’ve planned to do a lot of this year is hiking. What better way to get outside, get healthy, and enjoy God’s creation than to hike? Okay so some of you guys probably aren’t up for that, but at least a walk in the park is nice. Right?
One of the stores I’ll be shopping at for my hiking snacks is Whaley’s Fresh Market & Grill. This little market is the neatest place. The Whaley’s have given a lot of thought and effort to set up such a unique store. When you first arrive, you get a feeling of “old time’ charm. It looks like a general store from time gone by. When you step in, you see that it’s even set up like a general store. One of my favorite parts of the store is the back wall lined with trail mix ingredients of every type. It’s a hikers delight! There are a lot of options to choose from. I personally prefer to mix and match my snacks with granola, almonds, dried cranberries, and the odd and crunchy wasabi pea. I know it’s a weird combo, I’ve just can’t help it.
One of my other favorite parts to the Market is the deli area. If you’re hungry for a fresh made sandwich, you NEED to stop by Whaley’s. I personally love the combo they have of soup and half a hoagie with a drink. It’s a great value and you get to have the hoagie made your way. The last time I visited I ordered this combo. I had their famous homemade loaded baked potato soup, which is absolutely fantastic! It was creamy with chunks of potatoes and loaded with bacon and cheese. It was like heaven in a bowl! It was so filling that I almost forgot that I still had half a hoagie to devour. Of which, I dug into because I had ordered ham and Swiss cheese on a wheat roll. Oh, and I had them steam it so the cheese was all melted and gooey. Yummy! I am always quite satisfied when I leave Whaley’s. All of their sandwiches are great. One of the next things I’ll be buying is their fresh steaks. They have a deli case filled with fresh beef, hot dogs, cheeses and deli meat. You can also order sides like potato or pasta salad. I think I’ll be getting my picnic supplies here as well.
Not only is Whaley’s Fresh Market & Grill a great place to shop and dine, but its family owned and operated. You just can’t get better than that. I’m going to be set this spring for hiking and picnicking. I’m just so excited! There’s only one problem right now. I just have to sit back and wait a little longer, because as of right now it’s snowing like a blizzard outside!
