The Wearwood gym, home to the mighty wildcats, rocked to fans cheering on a new sort of heros. Wrestlers sporting names like the “So-Cal kid”, and “Trooper T” faced off against arch-enemies “Hollywood Huskey” and “Armageddon” in several matches last Friday evening February the 26. It’s all good fun, and for a good cause-to raise money for the Wearwood 8th grade field trip to Williamsburg, VA.
This is the third S.A.W. show to be held at Wearwood, explains, Mrs. Berg, who is the 8th Grade sponsor. Last year there were around 200 in attendance. It all got started when a new fundraiser was needed to help provide for the annual 8th grade field trip. Someone who knew someone, made a few calls, as they say, and the rest is history. “These guys don’t do it for the Money”, explains Mrs. Berg, “They do it for the Children.”
Friday Night’s event consisted of 5 regular matches, crowned by a 6-man tag-team match. SAW or Severe Attitude Wrestling does indeed help out the schools, and not just by providing affordable family fun. In 2009 the wrestlers of SAW performed 18 benefit shows, which raised $20,000 for area schools.
SAW is the brainchild of “Trooper T” who performs several shows a week all over the area separately from SAW. Trooper has worked with such wrestling superstars as Samoa Joe and Chris Sabin. Trooper, always there for the kids, showed one young fan a cell-phone image of himself and the Undertaker.
Fans wishing to see more of “Trooper T”, the “So-Cal Kid” and all the rest may visit them online at www.sawentertainment.com. Shows are performed regularly at Maryville’s Allen Wick Community Center. “Trooper T” may be seen every Saturday morning at 11am on WVLT or its local affiliate.
